Cold Weather Eczema Tips

Cold, dry winter weather is hard on sensitive skin conditions like eczema.

Consider these precautions to minimize flare-ups:

  • Make sure that your indoor humidity is adequate.  Achieving a level of 35-50 % humidity is usually recommended.
  • Consider more frequent moisturizing due to the relative dryness in the air.
  • Remember to use sunscreen when outdoors, even on the cold, dark winter days.
  • Dress in layers for warmth, but with loose clothing to let your skin breathe.
  • Wear gloves or mittens when outdoors to protect your hands from chapping.
  • If your clothes get wet from outdoor activities, change into dry clothing as soon as possible.
